It seems like a year or more since the old container, despite being metal, was damaged in an arson attack, with pretty much all the equipment contained inside it ruined. Yes, well over a year... Suspected arson attack at Saintbridge Balancing PondsThen things started to look up... Group formed to fund new community shedDespite an article in the citizen a few months back, though, it seems the replacement is still not in place. I had a stroll around the allotments a few days ago, and had almost given up when I saw the four block of concrete that the container will presumably rest upon in one corner. There's also a pile of timber nearby, which looks like it could be prefab for a sturdy shed. I'm concerned that the Friends of Saintbridge Pond may have folded as many local groups seem to be doing at the moment, or else the funding for the container and/or its installation may have dried up, which is also a current concern. Oh, hang about, this article from May, which I hadn't seen before, suggests everything may be on schedule, even if it has taken a while... Saintbridge allotments project to be completed by 2014So something should be happening soon...

Yes, I'm wondering what the hold-up is.

I tried to find contact details for FoSPA. This seemed most likely: www.conservationgroups.org.uk/group/863/so I left the following... I'd like to offer help with the installation of the new container, and related tasks. Though I've had twenty years of experience in construction, and assisted in setting up various compounds in that time, I know the actual placement will be done professionally, by the crane driver. I'm pepared to be an extra pair of hands, though. Cheers, Joe The only other pertinent link was to the Saintbridge Allotment and Garden Association, but there doesn't seem to have been much activity there for some time, or on their Twitter account. www.glosallotments.org.uk/

I think I found that address in another search the day before. Put it, and a few other links, in a post I meant to submit, but got side-tracked and closed down for the night without sending. I'll give it a try tomorrow.

Haven't got round to it yet (realistically, little we do seems to make a difference anyway), but on Thursday evening, still no container.

And now they're under attack from local vandals. I hope that someone catches the scumbags and gives them what for!

...and there have been more attacks over the weekend. This time, tools have been stolen.
We don't have similar problems at Tredworth at the moment. We do get some stealing of produce, though. I have just harvested my gooseberries slightly early to make sure that no-one else can come along and steal them.

The Tredworth allotments are like a high security prison, though, at the moment. There is one current security lapse but probably best not to go into details...
Perhaps some funding stream will allow Saintbridge to get high steel fences and secure gates as well, although that would imply a desire for the council etc to see the allotments survive...

Jennie Sutton tells me that Ken Price is the man to speak to. At least I have a face to go with the name, thanks to the last link in the OP. A month overdue, something must happen soon.
The council has provided a couple of piles of soil conditioner, by the way. Get it while it lasts...

Well, it would be nice if the council could provide some soil conditioner at the Tredworth Allotments. It would also be nice if the City Farm could deliver some manure, as they promised to do in spring 2012. I'm still waiting. I gave a spare key to Derek Wakefield-Brown specifically for that purpose, and he has never delivered so much as one load. I'm going to have to take the matter up with the farm manager.
By the way, most of the security fencing at our allotments has been paid for by Network Rail, so there's nearly zero chance of getting any for Saintbridge.

I found out, day before yesterday, that the container has been put in place, without anyone looking for my assistance, or the even being made into an Event, as far as I could tell. That's typical of our city, to keep everything on the downlow... Attachments:
