It was the right thing to do (inasmuch as it certainly wasn't 'wrong'), but not the smart thing to do. I can certainly relate to that. Remember, denizens of the Chillout Zone, that standing out from the crowd is a dangerous activity. Maybe someone could arrange a health & safety check next time... But (more) seriously, the lesson to be learned here is that with funding on a knife-edge, it's 'the second mouse that gets the cheese', and you dare to be different at your own cost. Silly of me not include the TiG link... Banksy style monkey queen picture in Newent causes concern

I've said it before on TiG, was censored, and now I will say it again here.
The people who bleated on about what the flag represents and that others have 'given their lives for that flag' are forgetting the fact that those lives were supposedly given so we could have the freedom to do stuff like this. That's what we were taught at school, that's how we've been indoctrinated.
Threatening a youth project with all sorts of terrible things is childish and petty. Unfortunately for the kids it is a lesson in how 'authority' works and what 'queen and country' is really all about.
You are free to do as you are told.

True, dat.
But that's kind of what happens as any country goes down the skids, and freedom of expression comes to be seen as a dangerous luxury.
How long before they set up a task force to bust Banksy himself? It's like 'V For Vendetta' in reverse...

I had quite a lot of comments deleted from the thread with no explanation. It's interesting that they did decide to send me just one email that referred to a post that breached the T&C.. Just for the record, here it is: ***************************************************** Thank you for registering with This is Gloucestershire. Unfortunately we have had to remove your comment on an article headlined 'Banksy style monkey queen picture in Newent causes concern' following a complaint that it contravened our rules, stating users must not discuss the removal of content. This is the comment that was removed: I suppose I don't really need to ask why all my posts on this thread have been deleted. There's the 'system' at work again! We would ask you please not to resubmit this content or discuss its removal on the site. If you are unsure of any of our house rules or terms and conditions you can find a link to them in full at the foot of the home page. Regards *********************************************** 'Regards' Takes the piss, it really does.

Although, Kay Powell argued vigorously by email for the validity of her posts, and two of them were restored, it appears. I try not to butt heads with TiG or their moderation company these days, because it rarely (well, really, never) gets as good results as softly softly... This is not to say that someone isn't getting reamed in the not too distant future (I already have a certain quango in mind), but there's a time and a place for excessive over-reaction

I'm clearly not very good at this registration stuff: when I tried to register for this site, it wouldn't accept a gap in my name, and I now see that my capital letters have been converted to lower case as well.
Hackingtackle, I read your comments on the Banksy story and they were good. Chris Roberts must have hated them and reported them to the moderator, although for what breach of TiG's rules I cant imagine. You really should complain to Report Abuse and ask why they were removed. The people they employ as moderators are very difficult to pin down, but at least you will have a stated reason for the removal of your comments, even if it is wrong or doesn't make sense. As an example of their reasoning, I had a comment removed a while ago when I was arguing against racism and homophobia (with Chris Roberts, of course); I asked why it was removed, and got the answer that the word "negroes" had been flagged up as a "profanity". Apparently, it is fine to say "black", though.

Hi Kay,
I had a similar problem with registration and proboards initially. The important thing is to find a name that works, because you can change your screen-name to the preferred version (with spaces and capitals) by going to the profile screen. When people quote you, they'll still see 'kaypowell', (but 'admin' in my case), so it's not really devious.
A whole load of comments were removed today, some of which I still have on open windows. Aston Martin has a point, though, just like chrisrainbow did. When posters respond to people they've identified as trolls, they are doing the very thing they presumably think those people want them to do, so why do it?
I've seen this from both sides (now), and there is an air of witch hunt when the sage advice of 'don't feed the troll' goes out the window. It only brings more hits for TiG, which is good for their advertising revenue, so why would they take steps to stop Chris Roberts, me, or anyone else from re-registering?
Not that I have any objection to anyone explaining the whole real ale thing to me, bearing in mind that everyone has a right to their own opinion, but this might be the only place where we can wrangle the facts into something vaguely resembling a concensus...

And as you can see, I'm also able to modify people's profiles for them, so if anyone messes with me, their name can literally be 'dirt'

The TiG moderator won't discuss other people's deleted comments. I'm currently battling to be able to repeat some very funny jokes that GlawsBloke had deleted from the gay marriage thread. They weren't abusive in any way. The mderator simply says that rule 11 is that I must not repeat any dleted content. But why was it deleted and what is wrong with it? Unless GlawsBloke himself complains and gets his comment restored, that might be an end to the matter. TiG is so stupid, it's almost unbelievable.

They don't really behave like an organisation with a future, do they? If Glawsbloke doesn't find his way here, feel free to paste the jokes here instead. Well, not 'here' here (we're getting off-topic )
