Jeez, you swear off 't internet fr the best part of a day, and it all goes... everything happens. "Lib Dem chief's having affair with my wife"THE husband of a political researcher has spoken out about his wife's relationship with leading city and county councillor Jeremy Hilton. Kevin Neal said the politician has been having an affair with his wife Rebecca Trimnell, who works as Mr Hilton's aide...] The plot thickens, though, when you read, right at the end, that Mr Neal is standing as a Labour candidate in Quedgeley, though he divides his time between 'Gloucestershire' and his 'family home' in Plymouth. Generally speaking, what politicians do in their private lives is private, and should not impinge on their public roles. Where Lib Dems are concerned, though, public honesty is often an issue, so any revelation is potentially damaging. Amazing to think that these elections won't be happening 'til May, yet while we know at least two people who will be standing, Mr Neal and Barry Kirby, we will have to go up to the wire to know who is contesting other seats. And TiG have removed the comments for the above story... there's a surprise...

Yesterday there was a forum on it as well, but someone must have blabbed to sir about it, so it disappeared. As I said on the forum, to air his dirty laundry in public, Neal must have no thought for his child. He cares more about getting his fifteen minutes of fame and embarrassing his wife and her new lover. If his marriage wasn't definitely over before, it is now.

Now there's a spat between Hilton and Parmjit Dhanda, after Dhanda alleged on Twitter that Hilton had been shortlisted for the Newbury parliamentary constituency. What interesting lives these politicians do lead.

It scares me that we have to choose between these two jokers to try and get rid of Graham...

I know what you mean. Dhanda was responsible for the tri-service centre fiasco, and Hilton writes his own fan mail.

Jeremy Hilton tried to get a motion passed at full council last night, requiring the whole Gloucester City Cabinet to stand down because of financial mismanagement. There were enough LibDem and Labour councillors there to out-vote the Tories by one vote, but Labour wouldn't go along with Jeremy's political posturing, so he ended up looking rather silly, I felt. And in front of his girlfriend as well. So much for the 'financial tsunami' that he predicted last week - it ended up looking more like a Severn bore on an off day.
I also suspect that Jeremy knows a lot more about the technical difficulties than he is letting on. Paul James said that they date back to a time before the current administration took control, and Jeremy didn't seem at all surprised at that claim.

I do wonder, if it's such a long-running issue, if there has been anything like as much of a delay in previous years? Seems like someone would have noticed...

You would think so, but it's amazing what can be overlooked. Do you remember when the mummified body of Otzi the iceman was discovered in the Alps? It was many years before someone noticed that he had been shot with an arrow, and that the tip of the arrowhead was lodged in his shoulder. It had been visible on the original X-rays, but no-one had noticed it until a scan was carried out many years later.
