I have been reminded yet again of one of the reasons that I steer clear of Eastgate Street unless I really need to go there. I was accosted by a pack of three chuggers this afternoon. I told the third one to sod off. Whatever they pay the city council to let them carry on their 'trade', it can't make up for the annoyance that they cause to both residents and visitors. Never mind the tatty/ugly buildings - if the council wants to improve the city centre, get rid of the chuggers.

They are relentless, aren't they? Last week, one of them, who was easily half my age, began his pre-amble with 'Good afternoon, young man...'
Throat-punching's too good for them...

I had two of the effing scumbags at my door on Wednesday afternoon. I'd have screamed at them if I'd had a voice. Instead, I rasped my disapproval and pointed my finger menacingly. They got the message. I have a perfectly clear sticker on my front door warning them away, but I STILL get bothered. This couple were supposedly raising money for British Heart Foundation, but we all know that they keep most of the money as payment for their 'work'.

Oh, one of them told me that the cold-calling stickers don't apply to charities. I don't know if that's true. Never got around to checking, and it's possible it is, or she was just relying on my lack of certainty to get away with a lie, or she even believes that. I just don't give to charities, especially know I now how little the Charity Commission bothers to regulate them. I support my local community directly, to the extent that its self-appointed 'leaders' allow me to, of course...

They're just liars. Some religious people also don't consider that the rule applies to them - presumably because they have God's personal approval.
